My 75th Circuit of the Sun
Hi all, To celebrate the start of my 75th circuit of the sun, I am asking for you all to donate to The Fred Hollows Foundation. https://fundraise.hollows.org/fundraisers/martinegglesfield . The Foundation operates in over 25 countries and has restored sight to over 3 million people to date!
Today, there are 43 million people in the world who are blind – but most don’t need to be. The Foundation focuses on preventable and treatable diseases such as cataract, trachoma and diabetic retinopathy. The in-country work involves local training and providing affordable technology, so doctors, nurses and health care workers can recognise, diagnose, refer and treat eye problems in their communities, then research to improve our understanding of avoidable blindness, then use the findings to implement strategies and advocate for change.
Fred Hollows was a dual New Zealand/Australian citizen. New Zealand have named him in the top 100 (@34) of most influential of Kiwi citizens. Australia recognised him as an Australian of the year. Eritrea made him an honoury citizen. His work and that of his foundation has been highly regarded in all countries they work. Any amount you can afford to donate would be of great value.
