Through My Eyes: A Street Photography Fundraiser for Sight

Every day, we walk through the streets of Melbourne immersed in colour, connection, and movement. In the blink of an eye, we witness glances between strangers, golden sunrises, wet asphalt, laughter from local cafes, and the shared rhythm of everyday life. But what happens when sight begins to fade, when these everyday moments vanish into shadow? Through My Eyes is a street photography exhibition by Jaycee Chong in collaboration with The Fred Hollows Foundation. Through raw, poetic imagery and interactive experiences, the exhibition invites you to see pictures not just as it is but as they might appear through the eyes of someone living with avoidable blindness. This exhibition was sparked by something very close to home: A family member of mine recently underwent cataract surgery. Watching their world slowly clear up, and hearing how different everything looked after years of haziness, deeply moved me. It made me realise how much we take our vision and everyday beauty for granted. Proceeds will support Fred Hollows' life-changing work restoring sight to people in need. Some visitors will have the chance to experience specially designed cataract simulation glasses, offering a glimpse into the world so many live with every day.
