I'm fundraising for the Fred Hollows Foundation
To my incredible friends and family, pls take 3 mins out of your day to have a read:
Many of you are already aware that I’ll be running my FIRST EVER half marathon (21.1km) at the Quick As Thieves event with Mike Toner in just over 2 months on the 25th November, and I am both SO PUMPED and in disbelief that I’ll be doing so!! ???? (Like omg, wth seriously.) My training consists of a disciplined schedule: consistently running 3 days a week- 2 x short runs and 1x long run, as well as strength training twice a week. Due to lockdown over 90% of training will be on my own & at the day of the marathon, I will have completed over 6 months of training.
Considering that a year ago I hated running, 9 months ago my longest run was 5km and I could barely walk up a hill without becoming breathless, this is a HUGE deal for me and a massive commitment, but I’ve always loved a great challenge and this has pushed every mental and physical boundary possible. Trust me, I never thought I’d ever be running a marathon LOL!
Why have I chosen to participate?
-I’ve needed something to focus on & challenge myself with during lockdown and in the last year I have spent a LOT of time learning about health and fitness; After years of making careless choices on what I eat & not valuing how exercise could impact my mental, emotional and physical health, I’ve gone from being completely clueless about food consumption & hating weights/body weight exercises to falling in love with exercise, fitness and building strength! Health & fitness conversations now excite me.
-I’m so passionate about promoting great mental health especially being someone who’s experienced a lot of anxiety and some depression in the past, and especially right now as many are struggling through these lockdowns!
- I’m in a group of incredible group or runners all at dif levels from amateur to advanced who have decided to work hard and challenge themselves & their fitness levels. A lot of us are from industries unable to work due to the lockdowns.
-I LOVE the possibility of being able to inspire others to try something new to see what their bodies can achieve!
-PLUS we are supporting an awesome charity for the blind that has the power to change the way people live permanently! Wow wow wow. Pls have a quick read of how this fundraiser will support the Fred Hollows foundation:
Currently 43 million people around the world are blind but 9 out of 10 don't have to be!
A simple procedure costing as little as only $25 in most developing countries can restore their sight and change their lives, the lives of their families & communities forever!
By running in this marathon, myself and approx 300 other participants will raise money for The Fred Hollows Foundation: this enables them to continue training and empowering local eye doctors, nurses and health workers and create a sustainable system of care in the communities that need our help the most.
Their purpose is clear; to make sure everyone, whether rich or poor, have access to high quality, affordable eye health as we enjoy right here in Aus.
I am so so very excited to be on this journey - Whether it’s a monetary donation of $5 or much more (only $25 can change someone’s world), or even just you cheering me on, either way it is an absolute blessing & will touch my heart!! Your support helps me to continue to believe in myself, keep challenging myself & not give up. WOOHOOO <3>
