Help Susan's Heart Transplant Recovery

Susan worked for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in the Florida Panhandle as a Child Protective Investigator for 10 years. In August of 2016 she transferred to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Asheville. In 2018 she was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. Susan was treated with an aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment and was blessed to be cancer free in 2019. At that time Susan wasn't recovering as quickly as her doctors would expect and she was feeling tired and couldn't regain energy on a daily basis. After numerous misdiagnoses it was discovered Susan's heart was failing her in May 2020. It was diagnosed that the heart failure was a symptom of the chemotherapy treatments she received 2018.

Susan is a fighter! In February 2021 she was put on a portable IV pump to deliver medication to support her heart function. During this time she continued to support the company full time at DHHS. On June 3rd she was hospitalized and then transferred to Duke on June 4th (her birthday) and then received her new heart on June 24th. Susan is on the road to recovery and looking forward to becoming a first time grandmother this September!

Susan is doing amazing and has already started taking some steps in the hospital. Her recovery will be lengthy and require many return trips to Duke. Please help us raise funds to assist her and Will as they navigate the many expenses associated with her recovery. While there are of course medical bills to face, there are so many additional expenses to be incurred from her required travels to Duke, loss of income, prescriptions and so much more. Any help is so very appreciated!
